Honoring My Mother

Today, I woke up to a message from my son.
“Happy Mother’s Day, mamma ❤️”

My thoughts went straight to my own mother.

Yesterday afternoon, I spent time with her.
When I came home in the evening, I felt something deep —
the compassion and love I carry for her.

That hasn’t always been the case.

My mother has been my biggest teacher in this life.
Through her, I learned what it means to be a woman.

Through her, I have experienced traditional ways of being a woman.
I have seen a woman’s dreams, a woman’s daily life,
her joy, and her suffering.

I learned about the woman’s body.
About a deep, quiet wisdom that often gets pushed aside
so we can fit into social expectations.

Women Who Run with the Wolves describes this beautifully.
It shows how we slowly lose something important in ourselves. This happens when we turn away from who we are to belong.

I watched my mother’s life from both closeness and distance.
We were the only two women in a family of many men.
Her life became the living story that guided me toward the woman I want to be.

If I’m honest, our relationship has not always been easy.
It has moved through many phases — love, distance, closeness, conflict, and compassion.

Maybe that is the nature of real relationships.
They are not meant to be perfect.
They are meant to shape us.

Our relationship has been a place of growth.
A holy ground for becoming.

Through my mother, I have learned about ancestry
and what ancestral healing really means.
How things move through generations.

Sometimes as gifts.
Sometimes as pain.
Sometimes as echoes that live through us — habits we carry.
showing up in ways that make us pause and look closer.

What is passed down does not only live in stories.
It lives in the body — in reactions, tension, and resilience.
When we learn to listen to the body, we start to understand what it carries.

Today, after many years of ups and downs between us, I meet her differently.
With more patience. With more softness than before.

Today, I honor my mother — not because everything was easy,
but because our relationship has been real.
So has her life, and being part of it has taught me how to grow.

Today, I honour ❤️💛my mother 💛❤️ my first teacher in life.

Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days
in different parts of the world. In Norway it is today.

By the way:
A mix of lived experience, professional work, and education has led me to go all in on my passion. I have chosen to fully commit to what I care deeply about, bringing together my lived life experience, education, and training.
That is why I have created a free four-week online course.
