My Worst Travel Experience in Malaga: An Earthly Angel, a Thief and No Sleep

What’s the worst travel experience you’ve ever had?

I hadn’t slept for over two days, and I was exhausted after having travelled from Pai in Thailand to Malaga.

Arriving in Malaga, I knew I still had some hours to kill before I could get into the place where I was staying for two nights.

It was high season, and I couldn’t find anything cheap. So I felt lucky when, through my ex, I got a place. It belonged to the sister of one of his friends. They were at work during the day, so I had to wait the whole day.

And what did I do?

I couldn’t walk around with all my luggage. So I placed it in a luggage store next to the train station. Then I walked around and went to the beach. I was walking like a zombie, or a drunk person, without taking a drop of alcohol or anything else. By the end of the day, when I returned to the train station, I was so exhausted that I could not walk one more step.

So I asked a taxi driver if he could drive me to the address I had. He didn’t speak much English, but we managed to communicate. His face wasn’t the most pleasant or happy one I have seen. But I was too exhausted to react. I jumped in the taxi and asked him to drive me to the luggage store, to pick up my luggage before heading to where I was going to stay.

And then… You can read all of it in my post 👉 A Thief and an Earthly Angel in Málaga

I still love Málaga.
But holy moly, I never thought something like this could happen there.
It did. To me. So it is real.

In that moment, it was the worst experience I could imagine. Especially after two days on the road without sleep.
Then again, I guess it would have been awful even with my beauty sleep.

  1. That was a horrible experience for you! But I do think keeping trust did send that human angel the moment you needed him most. Besides that: how could you ever travel, as a woman alone, without trust?

    • Yes, what you write is exactly that. Ten years ago, I would definitely have gone into “Ohhh, poor me, it always happens to me!” and become maybe distrustful of the people around me.

But today, I simply see that these kinds of unfortunate incidents happen. It’s nothing personal, and I don’t need to take it as proof that humanity as a whole is rotten. The angel was a great reminder of that.

Shit happens from time to time. ( I have discovered) Getting back up, dusting myself off, and moving on is the way forward for me. Thanks for reading the post, by the way 🌺🙏
