A Prayer Of Honor

Today, I honor the Earth, our motherland

Embracing all beings who traverse her lands: The two-legged, the four-legged, those who soar,

Those who crawl—visible, invisible, and more

I honor all who paved the winding path

And those who watch the road ahead, embracing its aftermath

Today, I honor the flowing water

The essence within me—at times muddy, at times unsteady

Today, I honor the color black, The weight it carries upon my back

Today, I honor the crack

For through the cracks, radiant light will stream

Turning shattered pieces into a hopeful dream

I honor the void

Where mysteries dwell and souls are joyed

Today, I honor the ache

The heartbreak

That tempts us to abstain

To hide away and feign from pain

Today, I honor creativity

The anchor grounding me in life’s vast possibility

Today, I honor this mysterious force called love

The essence we are made of

It’s love’s embrace that helps us grow

Guiding us with a gentle flow

As Leonard Cohen’s lyrics declare

“In love we are made, in love we disappear.”

Today, I embrace uncertainty’s role in life

Living fully engaged, despite the strife

In this uncertainty, in life’s endless tide

The alphabet of existence gives meaning inside:

L is for Living with passion and grace

I is for In—embracing each space

F stands for Forcefully moving toward what is true

E is for Evermore—the essence in you
