Ghost town

This town (town) is coming like a ghost town
All the clubs have been closed down
This place (town) is coming like a ghost town
Bands won’t play no more
Too much fighting on the dance floor

Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?
We danced and sang, and the music played in a de boomtown

This town (town) is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place (town) is coming like a ghost town
No job to be…

And do you recognize the lyrics? And from which song? If not watch the video!!!

The Specials. One of my favorite bands.

Does this song define our era? I feel it, at least. It could have been about 2020, “the Corona time that has turned everything upside down,” and destroying the economy and families, like BBC wrote some years back, The Specials: How Ghost Town defined an era?

By the way, if you wonder about the background of this song and who The Specials were?

“The Specials were a British ska revival septet who in the late-’70s and early-’80s was at the forefront of the UK 2 Tone movement which was popular among skinheads, rudies and some mod revivalists. Among their, UK hit singles were “Gangsters,” “Too Much Too Young,” and “Ghost Town. And the song was written just as three band members – Neville Staples, Lynval Golding, and Terry Hall – were leaving The Specials to form Fun Boy Three. According to Dammers, the song was inspired by the band’s split. He said in 2008: “‘Ghost Town’ was about the breakup of the Specials. It just appeared hopeless. But I just didn’t want to write about my state of mind so I tried to relate it to the country as a whole.” as the songfacts.com reports.
